2016 Craft Swap

On a whim, I was invited.

On a whim, I said yes.

On a whim, I joined a Craft Swap.

And the experience has been overwhelming.

This happened last August-October 2016. I, together with 21 other crafters, participated in a Craft Swap just in time for Christmas.

We were asked to create two items each: (1) an item made of at least 5 popsicle sticks and 5 buttons, and (2) a Christmas ornament.

And here’s what Eclations made:

fb_img_1486128036231

1. Love Christmas Wreath – made of green paper twine twisted into a circle to form the wreath, decorated with red rose and leaves and several buttons and gems.

2.Hang-It Popsie Decor – made of several popsicle sticks tied together to form a mini-blinds; decorated with a sentiment cut usting Silhouette Cameo 2, several buttons and gems.

I was really happy to receive positive feedback on these. But I was happier and more overwhelmed with the creativity of the other crafters who joined.

Here are photos of what the other crafters made:

Unfortunately I am unable to put links here at this time, marami kasi, but you can search the crafters’ names in Facebook and you can reach out to them if you find their works interesting. Some of them have their own fb pages and online business as well. 🙂

Dana especially loved the Christmas ornaments and hang them on our Christmas tree! It is such a joy and blessing to know you are surrounded by wonderful people who share your passion!

I really wish I had more time to create more and better items. I wanted to create something extra to give away but I didn’t make it to shipping cutoff.  I will just do better next time. 😉

Yes, I’ll definitely join again this year!

Paperclip Bookmarks

I have a confession to make. I am soooo lazy! Hahaha. I was so tempted not to post anything last night. After a hard day’s work, I just wanted to sleep. But it would have been so sad if my momentum stops just because of that. So here I am, the next day, on my way to work, and drafting this post. Can you believe I am actually ditching an hour of sleep for this?! Yeah. Neither can I. I usually sleep while in transit to work but today is not one of those days. Yeeeey!

Anyway, today I just want to share a supplementary project to my previous TV stunt (which you can read about here). I hoarded so much paperclips for thst project, I didn’t know what to do with them after. So I decided to walk the talk…

Ta-dah!!!

I made 60+ pieces of paper clip bookmarks and sponsored a local Calligraphy workshop by a dear craft mentor and friend of mine, Meeya of Papelito, a local brand specializing in notepads and other paper products. Checkout their fb page or instagram (@lettersofmeeya, @papelito2011) for more details on their exciting goodies and workshop.

Who knows, you might be one of attendees that get a giveaway from me! Ahihihi.

That’s it for today. Have a great day and a happy weekend ahead! Happy New Year!

Paperclip Art

Some opportunities only come once in a lifetime. If you fail to grab them, they may be gone forever. So when one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities came, I had to grab it. Despite short notice. Despite schedule conflicts. Despite the challenges and risks.

Seriously.

It all happened so fast. I almost did not make it. But I know, God worked things out in my favor. Ü

So last November 2016, I was blessed to participate and demonstrate paperclip projects for the DIY segment of the  local tv show Good News kasama si Vicky Morales. Ü

Ta-dah!

It was such a fun experience. At first I was ecstatic. I thought it would be easy. I have been making paperclip bookmarks for the longest time. But then I was asked to prepare 4-5 projects using paperclips. I scrambled for sources. I googled and googled but I realized there aren’t a lot of paperclip projects out there. I envisioned. I improvised. I felt proud. Then I felt so sad I actually cried. My PTO/leave for the shoot was not approved due to short notice. I thought it was all over. But then the production staff were kind enough to adjust their schedules for me. We shot the segment in the evening. I grew tired. Sleepy. But my heart was full.

Then the following Monday, it finally aired. I was ecstatic once again.

And thankful.

The Lord has been really great, gracious and kind to me.

My hubby, family and friends were very supportive too!

And GMA NewsTV has been very kind and accommodating.

I know things like this don’t happen often. It may not even happen again. So I really cherish it.

But you know what? It already did! (At least part of my video that is.) I just found out from a friend that the show replayed my ‘star paperclip bangles’ DIY last December.

Ayiii!!! I am so kilig! 😍

P.S. Special thanks and credits to GMA News tv youtube and fb page for the video and photos included on this post.

Throwback: Dana Cosplays

Last October 2016, we had a cosplay event at work. Employees and their kids were asked to come in Anime costumes and have fun with the program and treats prepared by the generous people from the company.

Of course, I signed up my daughter to the event. I had a lot of ideas in mind for her costume, especially something Card Captor Sakura… but then I received a notice from the company that we did not make it to the cut. So there, my world crumbled down to pieces. Haha. Kidding. But needless to say, I stopped making all efforts at making her a costume since we wouldn’t be going to the event anyway.

HOWEVER!!! 3 DAYS before the event, my former manager informed me to ignore the decline notice since they reserved special slots for us, and so the event continues and so does the excitement. But my world crumbled the second time after realizing we were only 3 days from the event but I didn’t have anything prepared yet.

So in a rush, I had to come up with something. I wanted it to be unique. It doesn’t matter if only a few recognizes it. I decided, I wanted to make her Mikasa from the Anime Attack on Titan.

So with little budget and little time on hand, I DIY’ed her costume and here’s how she looked.

Pretty fun ei? I dunno about you but I really loved it. Sure it looked really handmade, but I guess my daughter can rock anything she wears! (Haha, yeah, ako na ang number 1 fan ng anak ko.) But really… isn’t she lovely? cute? charming? cool?

And to top it all, I was really happy that she liked her costume and she went to the event with me, “in character!”

So that’s it for now. Please let me know what you think!

Purple Wedding Big Bang

Crazy. The past few weeks have been crazy. NO, the past month has been really crazy! A lot of things happened, and believe me, they happened all too fast. But to me, they’re nothing but wonderful, thrilling, amazing! There were ups, there were downs, but God has been really, really and I mean REALLY faithful and gracious to me.

So yeah, I have a lot of catching up to do and I hope my busy schedule permits me to. But for tonight, let me present you the biggest event of my October 2016, the Purple Wedding I have been talking about in my previous Journaling Series of posts, which I failed to complete by the way. But who cares, right? I’ll just lay them all out here, in ONE BIG BANG!

First, a quick recap… This year, 2 of my old, as in from Grade School, friends tied the knot! Their love was something that went beyond borders. Something that overcame distance. Nothing short of a fairy tale coming true. Love was in the air, it was aromatic! And I have been blessed to be a part of it. And until now, and I guess I will forever be, thankful for their patience, understanding and appreciation of me.

Next, a quick rundown of my artsy craftsy ekek for their wedding:

1. Journaling Cards – I created a series of travel and LDR themed cards for their wedding, supposedly to use among the gallery and displays. Each card is 4×6 and primarily in teal and purple colors.

2. Felt Bouquet – a gift for the bride, used for their prenup photo and video shoot. Ayiii. I was so kilig! <3

3. The Backdrop – well, the stage accents. We used paper plane garlands, big suitcases, paper rosettes and the like. This is my first time doing something like this and the couple has been very understanding of my lapses. I really, seriously do pray that I’d be given another chance to make it up to them. A child dedication perhaps? 🙂

4. Giveaways!!! – One of my favorites on this project. We created 2 sets – Large Suitcases with a Travel Kit for the Principal Sponsors and Tiny Suitcases for the guests.

For the Principal Sponsors, I especially created the lotion and alcohol, and Airplane and Tags using shrink plastic. My mother covered the suitcase paper mache, and assembled everything together. (Don’t you just love it when you’re mom is in on your thing too?)

And of course, for the guests, we prepared M&Ms and TicTacs on small paper suitcases. (Coz you know, Mitch & Mon’s Mint to be!) I cut and designed the suitcases but as you may already have guessed, my mother folded and put everything together. Again. :p

5. The Message Board – Still travel inspired, I made fabric covered cork board and tags where guests can leave their messages for the couple. Can you see how much the kids flocked over this board? They were actually the ones who placed the photos there. Quite the geniuses, don’t you think?

6. Accent Centerpieces – For this one, we used the default flowers provided by their florist, then added display items (travel souvenirs) of the groom’s mother, tea lights, and of course, our purple luggage as carefully covered by my mother, and table names designed and printed by yours truly.

7. The Gallery – special thanks to sis Eden Gomez of Craft Revive Piece for the woodworks. We setup a gallery to showcase the couple’s travel photos with a highlight on Boracay, Philippines where the proposal happened. Ayiiii. <3

And of course, let me share with you, the guests! A simple reunion of old classmates and friends.

With our newlyweds and their cool daddy! 🙂

And that’s a wrap. What a long post that was. That’s what you get for keeping a backlog. More posts to come. Stay tuned!

Purple Wedding: Journaling Card 05

Still our series of Journaling Card freebies, I would like to share these cards with you:

Tonight, I would like you to pause for a bit and reminisce about you, your own life, your own love. I know you will see that there were a lot of challenges in the past, but if you realize how they took  you to where you are right now, and I hope you are happy where you are right now, you will definitely say it is worth it. 😉

And if in case, you are not yet where you want to be yet, take heart. Pray. Then push and move forward. You will get there eventually.

And if by any chance, you feel tired, like you’re almost giving up, don’t! Keep silent for a bit. Rest. Re-charge. Then move forward again. Do not entertain negativity. Pray.

Sometimes, it is in silence that our hearts and minds get opened — to the realities of life, the lessons of the past, and the value of the present or the future that we so desire, that we realize, sometimes the road is long, but it is/will definitely be worth it.

Aja!

Purple Wedding: Journaling Card 03-04

Silly me, I missed a day. I was busy with work again, sorry. But to make up for lost time, err day, let’s hike up today’s entry to 2 sets journaling cards. Yeah. I am really passionate about this and I would like to stick to our timeline. :p

So without further ado, here you go!

I think of all the cards I’ve made for this event, these 2 sets, or quotes, are my favorite! It just says so much about how much a person should love, regardless of whatever challenges or trials or distance there may be.

Won’t you agree?

Well if you do, and you liked these, download and share away! 🙂

Purple Wedding: Journaling Card 01

13 days to go….

My hands and my mind and my low EQ have been itching to share a lot of things with you, regarding the upcoming Purple Wedding I have been helping setup. No, it’s not Joffrey’s wedding, but my friends’ wedding.

But since I can’t and I won’t share much spoilers (since again, to me the privacy of such intimate occasions should be treated as delicate or fragile), I will share with you some of the cards I have created for the event. Crossing my fingers, that at least this much info is okay. haha. ^^v

I think I have created 12 sets and I will share 1-2 pieces with you each day, until the day before the big day itself.

Excited? I am!

So here’s the first batch – and you’ll know from it the theme of our purple wedding, though I will not say what it is (directly). Haha.

Sized at 4×6″, these cards were meant to be displayed on random places at the event alongside a gallery of wonderful couple pictures. But you may feel free to download them from here and use them for your Project Life and other journaling projects.

Simple Instructions:

1. Click on the photo you wish to download and use.

2. Right click then click on Save As and save it locally on your workstation/pc.

3. Open any picture editor/app, resize as desired (recommended sjze is 4×6) then print on same sized photo paper.

4. Feel free to insert print outs across your Project Life, Scrapbook or Journals.

Or even frame it just like this:

A Wedding Bouquet

I am so excited! I am helping my friends on their upcoming wedding and there are a lot of things I have been doing lately, and if it were up to me, I would share them with you right away. But I know I can’t and I shouldn’t. Although, the low EQ me can’t help it, so I have decided to share with you some of the things I’ve made, which I think will not violate our couple’s privacy.

So for tonight, I show you… A Wedding Bouquet!

20160810_235441

It’s not the bride’s actual wedding bouquet, but it was used in one of their wedding-related activities which I won’t tell what.. Haha. And now, this bouquet is headed to the wedding reception as one of our decorations. Talk about [the bouquet] multi-tasking! I used to think these felt flowers I make were of no use but I still make them anyway. :p But now, I take pride in knowing they can be functional too! Beautifying a person, and event, making a person or people happy just but looking at them… isn’t that considered functional? Yey!

And that is just the beginning. I have more stuff to show but I’ll park them for another post. So stay tuned. 🙂

So now more than ever, I feel that my tagline is true. I am indeed an IT professional by day (though sometimes it extends through the night). A crafter by night (though sometimes it extends through dawn or early break of dawn). And I am at all times, a mother.

If this isn’t slogging then I don’t know what is. I know a normal person would say just pick one, focus on it, and do not torture yourself. It’s either you work hard at your day job. Or quit it and diligently push through with your passion.

But we can do both, can’t we?

So despite the challenges, and lack of time (or lack of sleep), I have continued to work on several things simply because I love to. Crafting is a special part of me. And I will keep on doing it for as long as I, and there are others who are happy with it! 🙂

Recycled Materials Costume

Last month, my daughter’s Kindergarten celebrated Science Week. There were lots of activities I’m sure the kids and adults enjoyed. And to cap the week of exciting science games and activities, the children were asked to come in costumes made out of recycled materials. This got me excited, being the crafty mom that I am, but I was crunched for time given that I had to juggle things with work; unlike last year when I was on medical leave, which gave me more time to relax and also spend with and for my daughter.

But… a mother’s gotta do what a mother’s gotta do.

I initially wanted to make her a wedding dress, made of recycled sack and lots of sandwich bags and plastics, but we couldn’t find sacks or katya anywhere.

The next best thing? Newspaper or Magazines.

So we bought just that and in just 1 hour, while watching GoT with hubby (yes, I tend to multi-task most of the time),  and half of a fashion magazine, I ended up with this:

Pretty simple. No, a lot simpler than what I really had in mind. But I am glad she had fun wearing it just the same.

So imagine my surprise when she came home with this:

image-0-02-01-6fa89efd5b4f7ed173f332dc59157a34e2d9777120f143ad79898cfd7e01f0e4-V
Happiness!

Yup! A BEST IN COSTUME AWARD!

I dunno how it happened, so don’t ask me. I know it was probably not because of the beauty of the dress but with how my lovely little lady carried [wore] it. And that makes this mama even more really proud!

My only regret is that I couldn’t be there to see her win myself. Still, I was sooooo happy and proud I had to post photos and send pics of my daughter to family and friends that night.

Fast forward to today, as I look at my daughter as she sleeps, I thank God for allowing me to be a mother to this little girl. And I pray that someday, I can be there more for her, in every aspect of her life, the highs and the lows. And as I do my best doing whatever I gotta do to reach that someday, I pray to the Lord to continue and always be there for her, especially during those times when I physically can’t.

But this mama is not giving up. I know we will all reach our dreams someday. Well, never did I imagine we’d win an award in school for this but we did, didn’t we? So everything, with hardwork, prayers, love and dedication, is and will always be within reach.

To God be the glory! 🙂
